Brigantine Lodge #2428 is now proud to be one of the collection sites for Cell Phones for Soldiers in southern New Jersey. Please bring in your old cell phones and put them in the box in the foyer designated for that purpose. You can either erase the cell phone data yourself by going to the web and downloading simple instructions at this link Cell Eraser or we will erase your data for you. Let's help give our soldiers the ability to keep in touch with their loved ones while the are serving our country abroad.
The phones collected are sent to ReCellular which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone, enough to provide and hour of talk time to soldiers abroad. You can read more about this wonderful program at cellphonesforsoldiers.com.
“SO LONG AS THERE ARE VETERANS, THE BENEVOLENT AND PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS WILL NEVER FORGET THEM”.
The goal of our Lodge National Veterans Service Committee is to help all of our nations Veterans. Last year we hosted Veterans from the NJ Veterans Memorial Home at Vineland as well as a number of local Veterans to join us for the Army/Navy Game. We also made a Christmas Trip to Vineland to spread some Christmas cheer.
Our plans for 2010 include:
March 11 Saint Patrick's Day Visit to the Vineland Veterans home and Veterans Haven in Ancora. We will be taking cookies, Irish Potatoes, and a donation for resident activities.
June 13 FLAG DAY "DAY AT THE BAY" Host Vet's to join us for a Flag ceremony followed by a day of fishing on the "Fishfinder" a trip to the beach, or just relax by the bay. Lunch and dinner will be served to the Veterans and their guests.
July 4th Fireworks--The Veterans Committee will be serving burgers, hot dogs, soda etc. to the folks who come to watch the fireworks at our lodge.
August 3 We are working on a trip for Veterans to the EAGLES Training Camp at Lehigh Univ. Still in the planning stages. More to follow.
Dec 11 Army/Navy game-We host Veterans to a day of football and fellowship and great chow! Also in December we will be visiting Vineland and Veterans Haven for Christmas.
We will continue our successful "Cell Phone for Soldiers" Program and we've begun a new initiative to start a Vet mailing list so members can send a note to a Vet who perhaps doesn't have much in the way of family contacts. Throughout the year we work with and support the activities of both the VFW and the American Legion Posts.
Please consider joining our committee. You do not have to be a Veteran; you just need a strong desire to help enrich the lives of our country's Veterans.
