“SO LONG AS THERE ARE VETERANS, THE BENEVOLENT AND PROTECTIVE ORDER OF ELKS WILL NEVER FORGET THEM”.
The goal of our Lodge National Veterans Service Committee is to help all of our nation's Veterans. Last year we hosted Veterans from the NJ Veterans Memorial Home at Vineland as well as a number of local Veterans to join us for the Army/Navy Game. We also made a Christmas Trip to Vineland to spread some Christmas cheer.
Our plans each year include:
Saint Patrick's Day Visit to the Vineland Veterans home and Veterans Haven in Ancora. We will be taking cookies, Irish Potatoes, and a donation for resident activities.
FLAG DAY "Ted Billen DAY AT THE BAY" - Vets join us for a Flag ceremony followed by a day of fishing on the "Fishfinder" a trip to the beach, or just relax by the bay. Lunch and dinner will be served to the Veterans and their guests.
Army/Navy game-We host Veterans to a day of football and fellowship and great chow! Also in December we will be visiting Vineland and Veterans Haven for Christmas.
We will continue our successful "Cell Phone for Soldiers" Program and we've begun a new initiative to start a Vet mailing list so members can send a note to a Vet who perhaps doesn't have much in the way of family contacts. Throughout the year we work with and support the activities of both the VFW and the American Legion Posts.
Please consider joining our committee. You do not have to be a Veteran; you just need a strong desire to help enrich the lives of our country's Veterans.
Operation Paperback Sends Books to Our Troops. We are seeking a variety of fiction and non-fiction AND children's books to send to deployed soldiers who read to their children via webcam or on DVDs. Please drop off your donations of books at Elks Lodge #2428. There is no deadline, just donate! For more information contact Bob Garguilo at or visit
Small White Table Honors our VetsA small white table, pictured below, has been installed in the lobby of the Lodge. The table honors the veterans of our four services: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps. The white linen represents purity, the overturned glass - a missing comrade's inability to join us, the lemon wedge - the soldier's bitter fate, the single red rose - the life of the absent serviceman. Other symbols are often used. Please stop by and visit this touching memorial. Search brigantineelks.com: search tips Weather Forecast©2012 Brigantine Elks Lodge #2428 Exalted Ruler Rich Poole
Cell Phones for Soldiers Brigantine Lodge #2428 is now proud to be one of the collection sites for Cell Phones for Soldiers in southern New Jersey. Please bring in your old cell phones and put them in the box in the foyer designated for that purpose. You can either erase the cell phone data yourself by going to the web and downloading simple instructions at this link Cell Eraser or we will erase your data for you. Let's help give our soldiers the ability to keep in touch with their loved ones while they are serving our country abroad. The phones collected are sent to ReCellular which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone, enough to provide and hour of talk time to soldiers abroad. You can read more about this wonderful program at cellphonesforsoldiers.com.
