I was in PG for a week last fall visiting family and ended up exploring more of the food scene than I expected. First couple of days I stuck with what I knew, but then I realized there were tons of small, independent places that didn’t look like much from the outside but totally surprised me. One afternoon I walked into this Vietnamese spot kind of by accident — I just saw steam on the windows and decided to try it. Hands down the best pho I’ve had outside of Vancouver. The place was almost empty but the broth was legit. Then there was this small café that did homemade baking and had sandwiches with actual roasted turkey, not that processed stuff. After that, I just started looking up places every evening and made a little game out of trying something new. If you’re trying to figure out what’s around without wandering too much, I found Restaurants in Prince George, BC super helpful. It’s pretty straightforward, not cluttered, and covers way more than just the obvious chains. It helped me spot a cool Indian restaurant near Spruceland that I would’ve never seen otherwise. It’s not always about the fanciest place — sometimes it’s just about finding a spot where people actually care about what they’re serving.

There’s something kind of exciting about not knowing exactly how things will turn out. You walk into a random place, no expectations, and sometimes you walk out amazed. Other times, not so much — but even that becomes a story later. Guess that’s part of the fun.
